This round flouts an established convention of Macclesfield Quiz League (and most other similar competitions), by which when an answer is the name of a person, only the surname need be given. This is fine with me; for one thing question setters are entitled to ignore the convention and insist on the forename being given, if they think it appropriate; and for another, the fact that someone is known by three names gives an extra clue to his or her identity, and if anything makes the forenames more memorable.

It's arguable, however, whether it's entirely fair – even in a supplementary – to insist on three names being given for someone who is conventionally known by his initials and surname only.

We'll let them off with the third supplementary ...
